Services for Senior Citizens and Riders with Disabilities

At Victoria Transit we want our services to be accessible and comfortable for all. In order to better serve our Senior and disabled riders, we offer the following services.

  •  Specialized Transportation Services
    • If you are unable to use the fixed route system, Victoria Transit offers Para-transit service. This service offers door-to-door transportation. For those wishing to travel on the Flexible Job Access Routes, Victoria Transit provides on-demand service to areas within ¾ mile of a Flexible Job Access Route.   •  Lift and Ramp Access
    • Passengers who use wheelchairs or similar mobility devices will find lift access to buses throughout the service area. The international access symbol is displayed on every accessible vehicle.

  •  Seating Access
    • The seating in the front of the bus is reserved for the elderly, and/or passengers with disabilities.
      Each bus also has designated seating areas for persons in wheelchairs.

  •  Calling Out Stops
    • In accordance with the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990 (ADA), all operators on announce stops as follows:
      •  Major stops/time points along the route
      •  Transfer locations and routes which serve them
      •  Major intersections
      •  Stops upon request
      This service provides any passenger with information and orientation along the route and throughout the service area.

  •  Free Training Opportunity
    • Victoria Transit also offers free bus training for passengers with disabilities and for senior citizens.
      Staff will show you how to ride the bus and answer any questions you have.

  •  Operator Training
    • All Operators are specially trained to meet the needs of passengers with disabilities by assisting passengers when getting on and off buses.

    Wheelchair Information:

    Part 38 of the U.S. DOT regulations of the American with Disabilities Act states that all common wheelchairs and their users must be transported. A common wheelchair that does not exceed 30 inches in width and 48 inches in length measured two inches above the ground, and does not weigh more than 600 pounds when occupied. Wheelchairs are defined to include both three-wheeled and four-wheeled mobility aids. Three-wheeled scooters and other non-traditional designs that fit within these standards will be transported. Services will be denied if the weight limit and dimensions exceed the above guidelines.

    In accordance with Section 223 of the American with Disabilities Act of 1990, Victoria Transit provides complementary (similar) Para-transit service for individuals unable to use the fixed route system.
